Who Is Jay?

Hi, I’m Jay Valdez. I’m a political science graduate with a minor in journalism, passionate about understanding how power works and telling stories that help people make sense of it. My work blends research, analysis, and storytelling, whether I’m attending congressional hearings, reporting on policy developments, or producing multimedia content that communicates complex ideas clearly.

I’ve gained hands-on experience through internships at Corazón Latino and The Washington Center, where I covered federal policy, environmental issues, and advocacy efforts, and through leadership roles in fast-paced work environments like Chipotle, which taught me the value of teamwork, efficiency, and staying calm under pressure. My background in journalism and media allows me to translate political and policy issues into accessible, engaging content for a broad audience.

Outside of work and study, I’m fascinated by how media shapes public perception, the role of technology in politics, and the ways young people engage with civic life. On this site, you’ll find my portfolio of articles, multimedia projects, and reflections on the intersections of politics, media, and society.
